I came here after visiting Asukusa, and was really moved by the simplicity and peacefulness.  This Shinto shrine was built in the early 1900s to pay tribute to a beloved emperor and empress, and was then destroyed in the war.  Japanese people from all over the world donated goods and money to rebuild the shrine as we see it today.  It includes a small museum, the empresses iris garden, and the shrine itself, among other buildings.  The complex itself is actually quite huge (with everything from wedding halls to tennis courts), but I only visited the areas most popular with tourists. You know the drill with the pictures: roll over and click as needed.
